Friday Favourites

It’s actually been a very quiet week this week and I’ve spent a lot of my time just chilling out at home. Since I managed to secure a placement for the new year I’ve been putting a little less pressure on myself to be super busy all of the time. A few weeks ago the thought of taking a day to just chill out at home was my worst nightmare. I’d got myself into a routine where I was getting up early every morning and putting pressure on myself to spend that entire day writing blog posts, applying for jobs, sending out cover letters and then beating myself up if I hadn’t done all of that by 5pm.

I grew more and more frustrated with myself with each passing day. I felt like I wasn’t doing enough and that I was wasting time. I don’t think I fully realised how much of a toll it was all taking on me until the last few days as I was going through the “comedown” stage of anxiety and it was only at this point that I was able to fully process the stresses, thoughts and anxiety symptoms that I had been experiencing over the course of the last month.

BUT, this is a positive post and not a negative nancy, poor me post, so enough of that. Now that I’m coming out of my slump I can appreciate all of the great things going on in my life and learn to just chill out for a while. With that in mind, here’s my Friday Favourites weekly round up.

1. Photoshoots with Kellie Scott Photography

I really want to work on the visual content side of things with my blog over the next few months (she says as she puts up a post without any photos). As much as I love writing, the reason I created this blog was also because of my love of fashion and styling. I’ve worked with a few photographers since I started the blog and until now it just hasn’t worked out. I loved working with Georgia Sillitoe on several shoots while I was in London and if I could work with her more frequently I definitely would but obviously I live in Northern Ireland and she lives in London so that’s not going to work for regular shoots. Thankfully, I found the lovely Kellie Scott and I couldn’t be happier. We’ve worked together twice now and have arranged a few more shoots together before the New Year and I’m so excited to be able to bring more outfit posts to you guys. The first of the outfit posts that I worked with Kellie on is now live and you can give it a read here. When Kellie sent me the photos I couldn’t wait to share them on my blog and Instagram and I’m really excited about all the content coming to my blog over the next few weeks. Hopefully you will enjoy getting to know me and my sense of style a little more.

2. Snapchat

And on that note of getting to know me better – I joined snapchat (as a blogger) earlier this week. I already had a snapchat account for personal use but I’ve wanted to start snapping more blog related content for a while now. I love following bloggers and influencers on snapchat and video content seems to be where the digital world is heading. Snapchat felt like a lot of exposure and that terrified me (and still does). It’s another platform where you’re really putting yourself out there and it’s much more intimidating because unlike with writing a blog post or posting picture on instagram, you can’t hide behind a still shot. The same reasons that I wanted to start snapchatting as a blogger – to engage more with followers and allow to people get to know me better and on a more personal level – were the same reasons holding me back but I just decided to bite the bullet and go for it instead of sitting around talking about it. There’s only so much talking you can do in these situations and sometimes you just need to take action or you’ll never be able to progress.

Now, I know that following bloggers, watching vlogs and listening to the Northern Irish accent on camera isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but if you fancy getting to know me a little more, listening to more of my fashion chit chat and seeing what I get up to on a daily basis then my username is @niamhserena so get following. 3. Christmas shopping

By some miracle, as of yesterday I’ve officially finished all of my Christmas shopping. I have no idea how I managed to pull off being so organised this year. It’s a little bit bitter sweet having finished all of my present buying. Although it’s a relief to be finished, I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve forgotten someone. I’m also awful with surprises and no matter how hard I try I end up giving them away so now that I’ve finished my shopping with some time to spare, I’m faced with the struggle of being able to keep them all a secret from the recipients. That said, I’m pretty proud of all of the gifts I got and I managed to keep them all fairly affordable which is a bonus. Let’s hope they all like their gifts!

If you’re still struggling with the Christmas shopping I’ve now published 3 gift guides – personalised gifts, beauty gifts and gifts available from local businesses – with one more left to go live this Wednesday for all of the last minute shoppers among you.

4. Bullitt Hotel

Everyone has been buzzing about Bullitt since it launched in Belfast a few weeks ago. I’ve been dying to go and finally had the chance to get in for a coffee and a nosey earlier this week while shooting an outfit. Their marble table tops and white mugs are every Instagrammer’s dream and the whole interior decor is very instagrammable. I’m always on the lookout for new spots to grab a coffee with my laptop to do some work and Bullitt is definitely one to add to the list. While I was there I had a little look around at the people who were there. It was filled with people and their laptops as well as business men and women having coffee and lunch meetings. Seems like they might be giving Established a run for their money.
