#TuesdayShoesday: Socks & Heels

Socks and heels is a trend that I’ve touched on briefly before as part of another #Tuesday Shoesday edit. It’s an interesting one that when given a chance can be styled to look effortlessly cool. These days a lot of people tend to dress the same and even though I’m definitely guilty of doing this, it can get frustrating to see everybody looking like clones of each other when there are so many different trends and clothes out there. Fashion is about expressing yourself and having fun with your wardrobe so I love when quirky trends like wearing socks with heels come along and spice things up a little.

Fashion can be so fickle. Only a few months ago if you had mentioned the idea of wearing socks with heels, most people would have turned their noses up and laughed in your face (some people may still be having that reaction while reading this post but stay with me). Realistically, I wouldn’t blame you for reacting this way since traditionally we tend to associate socks and sandals as being an embarrassing Dad trend but it seems that these “embarrassing Dads” were onto a trick and it’s a trend that is now treasured by both street style heroes and fashion icons alike.

The trend is the perfect way to make your summer heels last all through the winter and update your style by simply adding some glittery socks underneath. What’s more is, by adding in socks to the mix, your heels become much more comfortable and there’s nothing I love more than comfortable fashion.

The key with this trend is all about texture. So think glitter, sheer, fishnet or lace and you’re on the right track. For this look I’ve opted for fishnet, a trend in itself that’s really having a moment right now. Adding in fishnet to this outfit created more of a grunge look, complimented by the ripped jeans. Even though I wanted to channel a grungey look, I still wanted to keep things a little feminine through subtle details like the lace detailing on the cami top as well as around the ankle of the socks.

Adding socks underneath your favourite heels can help to add a feminine flair to your outfit, especially if you go down the glittery route or if you prefer more subtle touches of femininity, lace detailing is a great option.

As I mentioned before, fashion is supposed to be fun. It’s all about finding creative ways to style different items of clothing together and bringing old items of your wardrobe back to life by updating them with fun accessories. We might look back on this trend and cringe like many trends we’ve experimented with in the past but fashion is about taking risks and it would be boring if we didn’t try something a little wacky every so often.

You may think this trend isn’t for you but it’s very easily done and it’s not as scary as it looks. If you’re still feeling a little unsure check out the Who What Wear Beginner’s Guide to the trend along with a selection below of my favourite cutesy socks that will give you the confidence you need to take this trend in your stride.
