Reminiscent of military pilot style, the bomber jacket is a trend that really took off this season and thankfully, doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Alexander Wang made his mark on the trend with a bomber jacket featuring metal eyelet detailing. Burberry opted for an oversized fit, staying true to the origins of the bomber jacket in a khaki/army green colour. While Gucci and Saint Laurent went for a more elegant, girly option, creating beautiful silk bomber jackets complete with intricate Japanese inspired florals and brocade patterns.

The continuing of this trend is the affirmation that we’ve all been waiting for that athleisure is a trend that’s still going strong because what’s sports luxe without a bomber jacket or 3 in your wardrobe?

Bomber jackets are surprisingly versatile pieces when it comes to the options available with thankfully, most high street stores jumping on the trend and treating us to affordable options of the designer pieces that we saw earlier in the season. They’re easy to layer and help to create that perfect tomboy meets streetwear look – think celeb pals Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner in their leggings, slogan tee and bomber jackets look.

Whether we like it or not, British and Irish weather often means it’s not unusual to leave the house with a jacket or coat on in the middle of august and if we’re being realistic, we’ll very soon be reaching the stage where jackets and coats will become a non-negotiable part of our outfits again. Although in many ways this is part of the very sad process that is saying goodbye to summer but with a plethora of different designs, styles and colour of bomber jackets available on the high street, we can quickly forget those post-summer blues and look super stylish while doing it.
