Sadly, it has reached that time of year where I’ve pushed my luck in making my natural tan from the summer last and it’s time to admit defeat and turn back to the trusty bottled stuff.
Fake tan can be a risky business but with so many different brands and variations to choose from, there’s just too much temptation to give them all a try at least once and after being very kindly given a few free bottles from the new range, Selfie tan, following their launch of the new product, it would have been rude not to give it a go.
The products within the range vary from Instant wash off formulas to formulas which create more of a gradual tan, as well as a wash off formula to use for your face which looks great underneath or instead of make up. Being a first timer with the range I decided to opt for the Instant Wash Off formula.
What’s interesting about this product is that it’s made up of little bronzing beads which burst on your skin upon application, creating a beautifully, subtle, golden glow. Initially, I was very hesitant to apply the product directly to my skin using just my hands, without a tanning mitt to protect my hands from the tell tale fake tan stains that we all dread. Thankfully though, I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that, true to its name, the product washed off my hands very easily, leaving no traces of the product on my hands or wrists. The fact that this fake tan product doesn’t catch in you ankles, wrists, elbows or other areas of your skin that are just generally a lot dryer, is one of my favourite features of the product.
Another notable feature which grants the product huge brownie points in my book is the fact that it doesn’t leave any kind of nasty odour upon application which you, more often than not, find with most fake tans.
In the end, the tan turned out to produce a very subtle colour which makes me think that this product may be more suited to use as a subtle top up of your tan immediately following a holiday rather than around this time of year as we enter the dark depths of winter and are all desperately trying to look like bronzed goddesses instead of Casper the ghost in time for those Christmas parties.
